MotoGP Race Report – French Grand Prix 2026 Le Mans

The 2026 French Grand Prix at Bugatti Circuit delivered one of the standout races of the season so far, as Jorge Martín returned to winning form with a stunning comeback victory in front of a packed Le Mans crowd.

Starting from seventh on the grid, Martín made an explosive launch and immediately carved his way through the field during the opening laps. Up front, Marco Bezzecchi initially controlled the race pace, while Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio remained firmly in contention.

Early Drama at Le Mans

The race quickly turned chaotic for Ducati. Marc Márquez had already been ruled out following his heavy sprint crash and foot injury, while Bagnaia’s challenge ended after a crash while fighting near the front.

That opened the door for Aprilia, and the Italian manufacturer seized the opportunity.

Bezzecchi looked strong in the first half of the race, maintaining a narrow advantage at the front, but Martín steadily closed the gap with impressive consistency and late-race pace.

Mid-Race: Aprilia Takes Over

As tire wear became a decisive factor, Martín’s rhythm improved lap after lap. With just three laps remaining, he launched the race-winning move on Bezzecchi and immediately began to pull away.

Behind them, rookie sensation Ai Ogura delivered the ride of his MotoGP career, climbing into podium contention and securing a historic result for Trackhouse Aprilia.

Final Laps: Historic Aprilia Lockout

Martín controlled the closing laps flawlessly to secure his first MotoGP victory since 2024, completing an emotional comeback after a difficult injury-hit period.

Bezzecchi crossed the line in second place, strengthening his championship lead, while Ogura finished third to become the first Japanese rider on a MotoGP podium in 14 years. The result also marked Aprilia’s first-ever 1-2-3 finish in the premier class.
