Norris leads sprint weekend opener at Austin

The F1 United States GP 2025 weekend began with just one free practice session on Friday. Norris topped FP1 in Austin ahead of Hulkenberg and Piastri. Sainz and Leclerc faced technical issues in the session.

As well as the F1 USA GP is a sprint-weekend-format in this year, only one free practice was held on Friday. Every driver completes the opening laps on hard tyres. After 20 minutes Hamilton was standing on the chart.

This time came a red flag period, because there was a little debris on the curbs in Turn 16 – one of Stroll’s car parts was lying next to the curbs. Then Sainz had a mechanical issue, therefore he had to finish the FP1.

Furthermore, there were not many actions, all the drivers tried to find the greatest setups for the upcoming sessions.

The final 10 minutes showed some gear-up and the faster laps were focused on soft tyres. Meanwhile Leclerc reported a gearbox issue, which meant his end of the practice. At the end of the FP1 Norris topped the session followed by Hulkenberg and Piastri.
