Max Verstappen won the 2025 F1 Italian Grand Prix at Monza in front of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The Dutch driver recovered from an early Turn 1 incident with Norris but secured victory at the Temple of Speed. McLaren’s Norris and Piastri completed the podium, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc missed out on the top three. Start
Norris and Verstappen fought in the first corner, with the Dutchman running off the track in Turn 1, but he needed to give back the position to Norris. Leclerc overtook Piastri at start, but the McLaren driver got back the position. Meanwhile, according to technical problems, Hulkenberg had to retire the car before the race started.
Lap 1-4
Leclerc caught back the 3rd position from Piastri, and Norris led the race, until the 4th lap, when Verstappen passed him.
Lap 6-10
Piastri took the 3rd position from Leclerc at the start in lap 6 and started to catch the leader Verstappen and Norris. However the Australian driver was driving around 5 seconds from Norris and could not close the gap. For the 4th position Leclerc and Russell were fighting, however the overtaking attempt failed.
Lap 25
Alonso had a suspension failure at lap 25 and retired the car. In the meantime, the drivers order had not changed, Verstappen led, followed by Norris, Piastri and Leclerc.
Lap 30-38
Verstappen’s tires started blistering, meanwhile the McLarens started to talk about an alternative strategy to change the Pirellis to soft. Leclerc came in lap 34 to pit and back to the track as 6th with hard tyres. Verstappen pitted in lap 38 – got hard tyres, therefore Norris became the new race leader in front of Piastri.
Lap 46-50
Piastri, who was closing the gap to Norris through 9 laps, pitted in lap 46 and backed to race as 3rd. One lap later, Norris changed the tyres, who was confirmed against undercut, but there was a mistake at the pit stop, which meant Norris lost the position in front of Piastri. In lap 49 Piastri gave back the position to Norris as requested by the team in order to compensate for the pit stop mistake. Piastri’s engineer told Piastri that they can race freely afterwards.
Lap 53
Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix, the McLarens order not changed, Norris finished 2nd, Piastri 3rd.
